Many forms of divine guidance

How can we figure out what Source wants us to do, especially if we cannot hear the inner voice yet?

I was surprised to find out that divine guidance can come in many forms.
All we need to do is ask.
The following list contains examples  (and is by no means exhaustive).

Inner guidance:

  1. Visions
  2. Dreams with literal or metaphorical meaning
  3. Songs that are stuck in the head which have meaningful lyrics
    (example: https://karinfinger.wordpress.com/2015/01/04/thou-shalt-not-blame/)
  4. Inner voice (voiceless or audible)
  5. Blocks of thought (i.e. sudden mental insight without any formulated sentences)
  6. Inner knowing (wordless gut level feeling)
  7. Inner urge to do something (for example, the urge to turn to the alarm clock in the morning and switch it off just one minute before it would go off by itself)
  8. Physical sensations (like a tingling feeling, muscle twitching, or seeing a tiny visible spark of light)
  9. Emotions (for example, feeling guilty or discontent when we are disobeying divine guidance vs. joy when we are on track)
  10. Sickness (example: back pain in https://karinfinger.wordpress.com/2014/11/23/coming-out-of-hiding/)
(Certain body parts can point to different underlying emotional causes.  For more information, see Louise Hay’s book Heal Your Body)

Outer guidance:

  1. Words or pictures showing up on the outside world
  2. Patterns of events with literal or metaphorical meaning, sometimes mirroring us (example: the clogged drain in https://karinfinger.wordpress.com/2014/12/29/the-power-of-forgiveness/)
  3. Opening a book at a random page or drawing a Tarot card
  4. Numbers  (like 11:11 ), pennies and dimes, feathers or anything else that we have assigned a meaning to  (like a certain type of car)
(see Doreen Virtue’s book Signs from Above)
  5. Animals can have a meaning according to the shamanic tradition
  6. Spirit guides who show up in the flesh in the living room (as described by Gary Renard in The Disappearance of the Universe, or by Pamela Wilson to whom Ramana Maharshi appeared in her bedroom, see http://conscious.tv/text/12.htm ). But these are rather rare cases.
  7. Psychic mediums or an insightful friend

Anything can become our teacher. The whole universe is moved by the single invisible hand of Source. We just need to ask.

Stories:

  1. The book recommendation
The same book (by Ramana Maharshi) was recommended twice to Renate McNay by different people. But she wasn’t interested.
Then, she was in a bookstore and the book fell on her head out of nowhere.
Finally, she got the message and read the book. (http://conscious.tv/text/12.htm )
  2. Customizing the inner voice
I insisted that I wanted to hear an audible inner voice. Somehow, I had the idea that in order to be real guidance the voice must be audible.
So, one morning, I heard an audible voice into my head.
It said „Freedom” in a very low bass.
Next week on another morning, I got an audible voice in my head saying something in a high pitch Mickey Mouse voice.
That seemed like a humorous suggestion for customizing the voice of my internal satellite navigation system. Apparently, Source was making fun of me.
I felt humbled. But I admired the universe’s teaching methods, patience, and humor.
And I stayed with the voiceless voice setting.

I’d love to read your stories of guidance, if you feel like sharing them in the comments.

        1. Thanks a lot, again. Yes, I will keep blogging. (I guess that still small voice doesn’t give me a choice).
I got seven new followers due to your recommendation ( which is about a 100% increase for which I am very thankful).

    1. Thanks, Linda, for taking the time and sharing some links to your stories.
You have experienced many different ways of guidance. Wonderful.
I love the twist with the poem at the end of the poetry and solstice story.
Why would not the omnipresent theach that way? Exactly.
That is what it comes down to for me. God is everywhere.

      1. I was priviledged to see this in action this weekend at a mindfulness course. Separation disappeared amid kindness and compassion, and there were many tears and much joy as the concrete around our hearts was exploded off by realisation x

  2. Yes, wonderful, I’ve read your post on this,Susan. Sounds like a mystery indeed. How come this works so much better in a group? I have never meditated in a group. (I assume boring business meetings don’t count.)

  3. Great post! I found you on OM. Unfortunately, I cannot share any stories about guidance I have received – I wish I could but I haven’t consciously received any spiritual guidance :( Or maybe I have, but I didn’t realise what it was. Maybe I thought that it was just chance, or an urge – or it happened, but subconsciously. Who knows? Haha, maybe I have just forgotten my experiences :-)

I hope some day I receive guidance that I can appreciate on a conscious level. Really good post here.

    1. Thanks for visiting here.
I am sure you will receive guidance. All you need to do is ask.
And have an open world view.
Behind the visible 3D world there is an invisible guiding hand. Like an invisible octopus with a million arms. And that orchestrates amazing synchronicities.
The thing is, as long as you think of yourself as being a body-mind, stopping at the edge of your skin, then the universe will mirror this belief back to you. And the world will just be an assortment of bodies randomly bouncing into each other.
But as soon as that world view changes, so will the universe around you change.
A new worldview is like an upgrade of your operating system that allows miracles to happen.
Quantum physics is a great way to start upgrading your worldview.

      1. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I totally see what you are saying. My problem is my attachment to the body-mind. But I understand what you are telling me. Thank you for replying to my comment and explaining to me. The advice that you gave me is invaluable. Or should I even be using the word “me”?! Thank “you.”

I will start with the Quantum physics :)

  4. Life is sure deeper than what we merely see with our bare eyes and experience from our senses.
Guidance, like you describe, come in many forms.
You did a good job analysing them.
Everyone relates with life in their own paradigm and convictions.
It’s always awesome to learn how others fare.
I appreciate your thoughts and references.
I found your link at fill your own glass’s blog.
    Many cheers!

    1. Thanks for your kind words. Yes, life is much more than we see with our eyes. That was one of the many surprises on my spiritual journey which has resulted in a huge paradigm change.
Ten years ago I would not have recognized these signs. I was living in another paradigm back then. But today, my world view has changed. My biggest surprise was how important inner peace is. I am always amazed to see how the outer world restructures just because I choose inner peace regardless of the circumstances.

      1. This is so true and exactly what I experience. The paradigm shift from this to what was is like two different worlds. Before, I was 100% in belief of what society told us we were…and I was 100% wrong :)

    1. Hi Karin. I have been meaning to write another post about other divine guidance that happened in the early stages when I was was confused and not sure all of this was real. (equally if not more amazing than the license plate thing). In the beginning, I thought at times I was literally maybe going crazy, because all the learnings were so out of the ordinary. Luckily I had some very clear signs that couldn’t be ignored that gave me the confidence to continue down the road I was on, and I hope to post them soon. Most of what I went through I wrote on paper, but have yet to convert to digital.

        1. Still working on it Karin. It is longer and more involved and the flow just isn’t coming yet. Writing for me sometimes is difficult. But I think you will love it because you loved the license plate one so much. This one really is even more incredible :)

  6. All those signs sent to me by the universe is ultimately what spurred my spiritual awakening :) I noticed that I would have a conversation with someone about a specific topic or think a lot about something specific, and then an hour later or the following day, I would receive an email directly related to my conversation or thoughts. I was used to saying “Oh, that’s just coincidence,” but it got so eerie that I realized there had to be meaning behind some of these occurrences. I absolutely love the idea of synchronicity and still notice some pretty cool stuff happening. I also think dreams are a great source for guidance and deeper meaning about our lives and who we really are. I like looking into the spiritual meaning of animals, too, because I started noticing hawks a lot during my first year of awakening.

    1. Thanks for your comment and for sharing your experiences.
Yes, these synchronicities can become frequent and eerie. During phases of crisis or breakthrough, they are most frequent.

It is as if the whole universe acts as a single organism. Like a single invisible octopus with a million arms. And on each arm is a puppet which thinks it is separate from all the other puppets.
And the plan of the octopus is to show each puppet what is really going on in life. That is the metaphor that always comes to my mind. There is an orchestrating power behind the scenes.

  7. Thank you for a beautiful post. It seems with me, as I became more open and aware and awakened, divine guidance is everywhere. I sometimes hear it straight out of the mouth of my 4 year old when he says something totally out of left field, way beyond his years. I frequently find divine guidance from song lyrics that I stumble upon at just the right time. I can’t wait to read more from you!

    1. Thank you for your kind comment.
And thanks for sharing your experiences here.
It is awesome that you observe guidance, too. It is really all around us.
Song lyrics (either on radio or from a song stuck in the head) seem to be very common. I have heard that from many people. That is good news. Even if we can’t hear the wise inner voice (like some channelers can), we can still pay attention to the songs.
And , yes, children are used as messengers by the divine. Sometimes they mirror us. And sometimes they say something totally unexpected. That happens to me, too.

  8. SO very true. Guidance comes in so many forms, so many facets and even if we perceive being guided – for example – by Spirit Guides. They may be perceived by one person this way, by another that way. The important thing is: follow your intuition! As hard as that may be sometimes :-) Thanks for this great post.
I recently had had a post on the different possible sources of so-called Awakening Symptoms or their side effects (being sensitive to energies) titled “Suffering from Ascension”
And just as there often isn’t just one source for symptoms, there are many different ways of divine Guidance :-)

    1. Thanks for your thoughtful comment, Gia. I am glad that this resonates with you.
Yes, intuition is very important, and the guidance comes in many different ways form many people.
As I see from your blog, you have a lot of interaction with your spirit guides. That is wonderful.
I’m looking forward to reading more of your stories.
